COMMISSIONED WORKS
Rubain regularly develops commissioned works for physicians and other professionals within the medical field, alongside selected private commissions.
Rather than reproducing an image, each commission is translated through his own visual language, often drawing on the relationship between body, material, care and context.
The work pictured here was commissioned by a physician and later installed in his waiting room.
Works are developed on fragile and context-bound carriers, often sourced from medical environments. Fragmentation, interruption and material history remain central to a practice concerned with care, tension and incompletion.
Rubain has collaborated professionally with Stimulus Research Group and VUB/UZ Brussel, including the publication project Leven met een neurostimulator, for which he developed the cover and eleven artistic interludes in dialogue with Prof. Maarten Moens and Prof. Lisa Goudman.
This ongoing exchange between painting, medical environments and research continues to inform the work, while the practice increasingly expands toward autonomous painting and broader exhibition contexts.
